Aloha.
My name is Larry Sagaysay and I am running for the Hawaii House of Representatives as a Democrat. I was born and raised in Waialua and have lived there all my life with my family. Throughout the years I have seen many changes that have affected the North Shore community. I watched two sugar cane plantations flourish and provide jobs for the local workers for many years. Then due to an unfortunate decline in the use of sugar cane they unfortunately closed. These hard workers either had to retire or look for jobs elsewhere, sometimes taking their families with them to other communities. Some of their children left the islands all together in order to find better opportunities. In addition to agriculture we have lost other local businesses such as the rock quarry in Mokuleia; the IGA Supermarket in Haleiwa; Rosie’s Cantina and others. Despite this downturn, the residents of the North Shore maintain a strong and positive community. Tourism continues to be one of the more prosperous ventures on this side of the island. The lush greenery of our mountains, the beautiful beaches and pounding surf, and the aloha spirit of our community continues to lure people to Oahu’s North Shore. As a result, supermarkets, restaurants, shave ice stands, art shops, souvenir shops and others business continue to flourish as both locals and tourists arrive to stimulate the economy. Similarly, local farmers draw buyers with their traditional and new alternative crops. My hope for our community is that we can preserve our unique country life style but embrace the changes necessary in this economic climate to draw both locals and visitors to our wonderful community.
I believe that I am qualified to represent our North Shore community for several reasons. I have been in public service for most of my life; first serving in the Hawaii Army National Guard for 27 years. After retirement, I had the opportunity to work as an office manager for House of Representatives Michael Magaoay who represented the 46th District. That experience afforded me the opportunity to become familiar with the mechanics of the legislative process and meet those who work in the Majority and Minority offices as well as the Senate. It also gave me the opportunity to work closely with the people in our district and to learn about and assist them with their concerns and needs.
I feel ready to serve the people of the North Shore and would be honored to be your next representative of the 46th district.
Sincerely
Larry Sagaysay
Aloha,
I am writing to thank you for your vote this past Primary Election. There is still a long road ahead and I look forward for your continued support during the General Election on November 2, 2010. Similarly, please continue to encourage your friends, neighbors, relatives, and other registered voters in the 46th District to also cast their ballot for me, Larry Sagaysay.
Together, you and I can look forward to a vision in which the North Shore will experience continued economic growth and prosper while preserving our sense of community. I am ready to serve the people of the 46th District.

Larry
